Sunday - Porthcurno and the Helston Railway

Porthcurno Telegraph Museum was one of my main reasons for going to Cornwall, it didn’t disappoint. There are three parts to the museum, the modern building, tunnels built during the war and the cable hut. It all tells the story of how an obscure Cornish village became a major communications hub.

From there I went to the Helston Railway, one of the smaller (at a mile long) preserved railways. It wasn’t a major running day so the motive power was a Ruston industrial diesel and the rolling stock a GWR brake van. The “buffet” provided a good lunch though.
